☽ What does “Dead Dove” mean?Dead Dove is short for Dead Dove: Do Not Eat, a phrase used in fandom to indicate “what you see is what you get.” It is derived from a scene in the T.V. show Arrested Development where the main character opens a refrigerator and sees a paper bag with “Dead Dove: Do Not Eat” on it. He opens the bag and says, “I don’t know what I expected,” in response to finding a dead bird inside.Nowadays, fandom often uses the phrase to indicate that the fan fiction or fan art attached may contain dark, taboo, and triggering content. However, the original meaning of the phrase holds true.Blood Moon Rising will be a collection of dark, taboo, and triggering content, and what you will find inside is exactly as is indicated.☽ Collection? Zine? What’s the difference?A zine (short for magazine) is a smaller project. Historically, zines were created by small groups of people who were often just a group of friends. Their projects were handmade and distributed in person. Nowadays, many fandom zines are themed, have application processes that require samples, and produce a physical product through printers.A collection is a larger project. Collections have a sign-up and vetting process, but creators are not required to submit samples or portfolios. The purpose of a collection is to include as many people as possible, regardless of their skill level as a creator or their previous experience with fandom events!Blood Moon Rising is a collection!☽ Are there any restrictions? What counts as “Dark” or “Dead Dove”?>:] No restrictions. It’s going to be so dark you’ll need a flashlight.Dark tropes we expect but are not limited to are graphic violence, gore, rape/non-con, dub-con, adult/underage, graphic character death, body horror, incest, cannibalism, vore, toxic/abusive relationships, power imbalance/abuse of power, loli/shota, stalkers/stalking, yandere, corruption, and much much more.Not sure if what you want to create will fit in the collection? DM our Twitter account and ask!☽ Will everyone be accepted?Yes, with a caveat: We are an anti-censorship, anti-harassment event. All participants must be 18+. Anyone who has participated in bullying, harassment, or excessive character/ship hate will not be accepted, or they will be removed from the project.

☽ Do I need to submit any examples or portfolios with my application?Nope! All you need is a link to your social media, an email, a discord, and a desire to create.The project will be hosted in a discord server.☽ Will there be restrictions on the number of fanworks per ship?Yes. This will be determined when we complete the application period and will be based on the total number of participants.☽ Do we have to create ship content?No, we will accept fic and art that does not contain a ship as long as the themes are still dark.☽ Can we do crossover, original characters, or slash reader?No crossovers and no original characters. Alternate Universes (AU) are fine. Yes, we will allow character/reader and character/you pieces.☽ What are the minimums and maximums we can submit?Writers
Minimum: The length of a single haiku.
Maximum: No more than 2 pieces with a total word count of 8k combined. (ex. 2 fic [3k and 5k])Artists
Minimum: 1 sketch or page of sketches.
Maximum: no more than 3 pages of fully rendered illustration or comic.
